Found this at Costco today

Good stuff. Put it in a proper glass, no ice. Just a few drops of water. Sipping it now. VERY nice stuff indeed

Not so much one for scotch whiskey myself...but my grandson's father knows a guy who knows a guy...by that, I mean he is friends with just about everybody, it seems. Knowing my penchant for pellet grills he bought me this whiskey for my birthday:

Price notwithstanding, this is the best tasting, smoothest whiskey I have yet to taste.

As an aside, I made him this edgelit acrylic sign for his birthday (this is what he bought me last year).

Hope I'm not de-railing this thread, just wanted to share some artwork.

As a non drinker I enjoy the flavor of Whiskey or Bourbon in some of my cooks.
We used to sauté crayfish in Jack Daniels mixture on our camping trips to the lakes just north of Donner Pass.
I’m thinking a cup or two of that single malt would go really good in my water pan on my next bacon smoke.
I sure do miss sippin that good stuff though.

A bit of trivia for the eagle-eyed...the pig is holding a pair of BBQ tongs in the label on the Smokestock bottle.

I can't add anything to that. Pretty much summed up what I noticed. And just like the author noted a teeny splash of very neutral (RO filtered) water, no ice accentuated a slightly more "sweetness".
Honestly I feel it was a very good buy. Glad I bought it.

I like Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey, I picked this up a few weeks back. Very good over Ice Balls. It was $20ish, and was on sale for right around $15. Well worth twice that (imho)

What some do not realize is that a few drops and all whiskey's differ of course of water is the real game changer....ice melts way too fast.
If you like your scotch cold and want to avoid wrecking it with ice you can get these things called whiskey rocks or stones.....clean them, freeze them then add them to your favorite beverage. Refer to pic below for an idea.

I have a bottle of that in the house as well. Of course it's mostly gone since my son in law was here LOL. But darn good stuff

Blasphemy!
They make ice molds that make large, round ice-balls that melt very slowly, and doesn't wreck the whiskey. If anything, the minimal melting helps the flavors evolve and chills the spirit, in a way that those stones can't.

THAT is how it's done!
I can see by the proof, that it probably needs to be tamed with a little water. I don't see an age statement, so I'm assuming that it's younger than 10 years old.
How does it compare to other Islay whiskey that you've tried?

Everything you said is true.....
I like ice in my drinks, to me the more the better as I get heartburn with everything I drink and ice is the only option to tame it down.
The connoisseur would tell me I have lost my mind.
I have used the stone cubes before with not much love.....I never gave them more than 1 chance of course.
The purist again would say I am crazy.

It's like BBQ, and everything else. You like what you like!

Personally...... While I do agree that a little dihydrogen monoxide will help a lot of whiskeys, I do think that the larger round ice balls do tend to over-dilute. One of these days, I either have to make some stainless cubes, acquire, etc. to avoid that issue.

I may have to give that Kirkland brand a look. I've generally heard good things about Kirkland branded spirits.

I use to wish that COSTCO sold alcohol up where I live because I know what the prices are for what I like....
Now I do like to stay hydrated......
I think with the ultra cheap prices and my hydration issues it could push me into the next level which most probably would consider as drinking too much.....therefore I must be lucky this does not happen.
