I'm cooking a whole chicken (4 lbs)tomorrow, and want to foil it. How long could you hold a cooked chicken, in foil in a paper lined cooler ?
Could I cook it later in the morning, and eat around 4 pm ??

I'm sealing my Blacktop drivway, and don't want to be cooking the chicken after appling the sealer (smell). Any info appreiated. John

How late? How much time between 'done' and dinner?

I cooked 7lb chicken last week and it got done about 45 min before we wanted to eat. i foiled it just like you would a butt put in paper lined cooler for 45 min and it was very good. we don't eat the skin.

Once the driveway sealer goes on (about 11:45 am), theres quite a strong oder from the sealer that lasts a pretty long time, and I don't want to be cooking chicken while the oder is present thats why I don't want to delay the start time, if i don't have too. We want to eat a 4 pm. The hold time would be about 4 hrs probably way too long.John

You can hold it for 4 hours but you'll need more than paper lining. Pack towels in the cooler all around the chicken. Be generous with the towels.

Do you think the quality will suffer holding it that long?

I plan putting the seasoned butter on the breast as you told me for the big bird I cooked last week. Can't believe the flavor and moisture that came along with that.

If you don't care about the skin you'll be fine with it as long as you can keep it hot.
Put it in the cooler breast side down. Be generous with the foil as well.

Thanks, for the info.

I would have never thought to put it "Breast side down". Now the you mention it, I would guess it would help keep the breast moist ?
