Flat tasting kind of bacony?

I used the same rub as always. But for some reason the brisket came out having a bacon taste to it. I'm thinking maybe it's that I left more fat on then usual. But I'll be ****ed if it doesn't taste like bacon. Not exactly a bad thing, but not what I was looking for. Any ideas?
