Flat Butts

So I picked up a cryo. of butts tonight, got them home and they're shaped more like a brisket than your standard pork butt. Strange. I placed them on end as they wouldn't have fit on the grate side by side. Will be interesting to see how these babies cook. Note, you'll see a wine cork between the two as I was trying to keep them from leaning into each other.PICTURES

they are odd looking. i notice a lot of people here use skewers and such to stop two butts from touching. i never really worried about it. i just lean them together with a little gap in the bottom. only the top parts touch. i'm doing 2 butts tonight, maybe i'll try the skewer method. only thing i can see that would be different is you don't get any bark where the 2 are touching.

I generally don't have a problem with airflow with butts but these were quite differrent. So the plan was to use wood skewers however, when you live with the 6 yo Dennis The Menace you never know from one day to another what you'll have on hand

Clark, I was planning on pulling but now 19 1/2 hours into my cook and I'm only at 168/160 respectively I'm thinking slicing may be in order? I had to move the butts to the bottom rack as I had ribs to put on so that's going to slow things down even more. The pictures are updated.
