First time chunking apple wood

Just wanted to post some pictures of some apple wood i chunked up today. Its my first time chunking up apple wood for the purposes of smoking and if any of you have some comments, feedback or suggestions please fire away. I just split 1 log this afternoon to experiment but have another two dozen to go. The applewood comes from a local supplier in the Annapolis valley in Nova Scotia, maybe 100k from my house and was cut over the winter/early spring so its fairly green. How long should i let these chunks sit before using them? I noticed that just an hour after chunking up the wood (when the photos were taken) that the edges had already started to dry.

I've got a WSM on order to be delivered on Friday (can't tell i'm anxious eh

) and i think i'll be doing chicken halves and spare ribs for my first cook, also looking for suggestions on the rubs for those but i will read around first.

Thanks, and happy bbq.

Thanks Bryan, i'll chunk up the rest of the logs and see how well it dries. And thanks for the link to the other thread, still trying to get used to the search feature on this forum, they are all different.
