First time buying wood today. How did I do?

Never had to buy wood before. But I was getting low on cherry and I couldn't find a freebie supply. Paid $20 bucks for about 30 logs, all cherry except for a couple hickory and a couple apple logs on top in the pic. I think it was a pretty good deal. It should last me for years seeing as I only use two fist sized chunks per smoke...lol. I cut up 6 pieces on my table saw and got roughly 80 chunks. Those cut apple sections have the porch smelling like apples.

Looks like you got a great deal! Also, the cherry wood that you have, is it a wild cherry tree or a fruit bearing type of cherry tree. Or does it matter which you use?

It's wild black cherry. I use cherry on everything. The apple I already have, always tasted bitter/ sooty to me no matter how little I used. I hope this apple is better. I really didn't want the hickory but he threw it there anyway, I'll probably never use it.

Bill, I almost always use at least some hickory with pork items. To me, it wouldn't be the same without the hickory. But, I no longer use hickory for most other meats.

Good buy!

Those are some good-sized pieces of wood. I think you got a good deal. My father brings me down apple wood since he cuts older orchards down for firewood. This year, he got to take down a cheery tree, so I have several pieces of that stuff coming with his next visit.

Great deal on the wood. I just bought 5lbs of cherry wood chunks and paid $10.00.
Does anyone know where I can get this in Miami. I would love to pay $30 bucks for all that wood but Icannot find a place that sells it. Please help!!

No idea about Miami, but check Craigs List. That's where I found the wood. Everyone was selling face cords of cherry and other hardwood for 85-100 bucks. I told him I just needed some for my smoker and he sold me a wheel barrel full. A few other people wouldn't sell to me in that small a quantity, I had called three other people first.
