just got my new weber 22.5 and my first smoke will be without an extra thermometer so i need to know how much differnt the temp will be on the top grate compared to what the lid temp says thanks

Varies but I have a 25 degree difference in mine. If I stay in the 250-275 range on the lid, I'm good (shooting for 225-250).

Likewise. I did some very successful smokes before getting a remote thermometer. If you're doing a butt or brisket, you will need a basic probe thermometer, available anywhere.
