Going to my first competition end of August. I have (2) 22.5 WSMs. Hopefully that will handle my needs. I'm a lil nervous since Ive never entered one. Probably going to have to find me a helper.
Definitely find a helper and if you can afford it, do a as many practice runs as you can together. You will be amaze how much your head starts spinning about 8am with hardly no sleep. One minute your like "I got this" Next you are freaking out on turn in times. Everything takes twice as long when you don't have the luxury of your house. Here's a tip a grand champion gave me. Since you have some time, Start building a list of the crap you need and put it in your "comp box." The do a run practice run in the backyard with out ever going in the house. Then redo your list If the comp is near by, go spock the land. The little things that bite most beginners is water, lack of sleep and just being out of there element. I've had water ten feet away and I've had it 1/4mile away. no fun trying to carry a 5gallon bucket in 90degree temp for a cleaning station. Here's another tip. The more crap you bring, The more crap you half to clean. Or you can tell me to go pound sand because you have a 30ft motorhome. Most important, Have fun and don't be shy to ask question. Most BBQ vets will give you really good advice.
