Just shredded our first Boston Butt. approx. 14 lbs - started around 6:30 last night - took it off at approx 10:00 this morning (195 temp) at around 4:30 am I got up to check the temp (it was around 185 (w/bottom vents practically closed) stired bricketted/opened vents a little & at 7:30 am tekp was around 260. I had some trouble controlling high heat at the 2-4 hour point. will try one suggestion to keep the lower vents partially closed to begin with. looks & tastes great!

William:
You have a lot of fortitude for your first butt of 14 lbs. I did my first butt a little over a week ago, and it weighed in at 4.6 lbs. I started shortly after noon, and around 9:00p.m. the internal temperature was slightly above 160 degrees. I pulled it off, foiled and transferred to the oven at 225 degrees for a few hours. Glad things worked out for you.

Good going, glad it turned out good! Fourteen pounds is huge, I don't think I'd have the patience for that.
