I would think the temp controller should be able to maintain higher temps with the lower vents in the closed position , I considered a temp controller due to the fact my wsm runs 250-280 with little to no adjustments...going higher requires me to prop the door open about 1/2"....my wsm is well seasoned and any gaps in the sections have long been sealed with carbon build up so it has trouble at higher temps and staying there
