Check out what the SO just brought home with her, 244 lbs of Extruded Coconut Charcoal (ECC)!! Can't wait to use this stuff. I've heard very good things about it and even a report where a guy got a 85 hour cook at 225 out of 16.5 lbs. Very little ash too. Cool stuff!

You SUK

Now you have to buy your SO something made out of coal, maybe that diamond tennis bracelet shes been hinting about

OR maybe something else with a diamond in it

LOL.

This stuff is awesome!! What's odd is it's a very neutral smell unlike anything I've ever smelled before. Which is good as you only get the flavor from the wood you're using. Very little ash, can't wait to use it for an overnight.

Brandon, I like you're thinking, the good news is the SO has the ring; she got tired of being the "girl friend" so I slapped a ring on her a couple of years ago and that's kept her happy to date. Hell, give me some charcoal and I'm happy!

Bryan, if you're referring to my burnt hand, funny, very funny, LOL, never again, never again . . . what a night.

Burnt hand? No I was reffering to your wife bringing home 200 some odd pounds of coconut lump and where's the salt to rub it into our wounds. Hope your hand is OK, what happened?

Larry...that stuff looks great. If you have any information on how I can get me some of that...I'd be greatly appreciative.

Thats very similar to what I use in my kettles. I used to use the stuff with the holes in like that but I have switched to a different brand that is just cubes without holes. I think most briquettes here are coconut shell briguettes, even the dirt cheap ones (but not always 100%). I used them in the WSM a couple times but found that I had trouble keeping the temp low. They burn pretty hot. I stick with lump in the WSM... but I do love the coconut briquettes for everything else.

How does your ECC do on long smokes, if you've done one yet? I bought some of the pre-2005 stuff and it goes for 22+ hours. I've been hesitant to get any more as the reviews on the Naked Whiz site say that quality control is lacking.

Hi All,

Just wanted to give you my personal experience with this stuff. I bought some from Kamado a few years back and absolutely loved it. When I ran out I bought 550 lbs of it and the new stuff is from a different supplier. The new stuff is nowhere near the quality of the old stuff. Much less dense and way more ash. In fact, it is so much ash that I cannot use only this charcoal in competition since you have to knock down the ash during a long cook.Check out the charcoal review on the naked whiz website. My experience is the same as his.

I am not warning you away from other brands, in fact I would love to find some more of the good stuff once I use up what I have. Regards.

Haven't done a low and slow with it yet, will be doing this weekend. There is a guy (not the Whiz) who used 16.5 lbs @ 225 and ran for 85 hours. As soon as I do a low and slow with it I'll post my thoughts.

This stuff is from a different dist. and manufacture than Kamado; it's from Komodo Kamado which has no relationship with Kamado. When they got into the ECC business they were very aware of the issues with the post 2003 (I think) Kamado ECC. The Whiz has not reviewed this charcoal due to the fact that it turned out not being what the distributor ordered, and is waiting for the correct shipment to arrive. That said, many other's have used it and written their own reviews and have been quite satisfied, which is why I bought so much. Also he discounted this stuff as it isn't what he originally ordered.

Mark, this stuff is from the manufacture of the original Kamado ECC you're referring to.

If you go to the Komodo Kamado website you can find information on purchasing and the story behind this shipment and the new shipment. There are a couple comments from The Whiz regarding his first impression of it and his "non-review."

Hopefully someone will keep us posted when he gets ready for a new shipment. He seems very intent on making sure you get only the best.

make sure you keep us posted. i'm very interested in the stuff. i used to cook over coconut shells as a kid and have had great memories of that.

I live way over on the east coast. I've tried locating this stuff with absolutely no success. If some people want to do a co-op of sorts...I'm in. I'd love to get a decent amount of this stuff.

So let me see if I have this straight. You got this stuff from Komodo Kamado. Komodo Kamado is not related to Kamado. So who is related to Kamado if Komodo Kamado isn't related to Kamado?
My head is spinning.

Good luck Larry. I think I'll stick to my trusty lump
