EX4 Headroom

Can someone with an EX4 measure the headroom when trying to get something in the door of the smoker? I have a Rec Teq 340 and find it's 6.5" to low for some of the foods I want to cook.
 
11.75" and that's at the top of the curve just like the 340. The only dimension that's different in the EX4 and 6 is the width of the grill.
 
I had a Rec Tec mini (RT-300) and this thing is cavernous in comparison. The 340 is a 15" round barrel and the SF is about 18" in diameter top and bottom but an elongated oval which gives more headroom.

The EX-4, I think, is more directly comparable to Recteq's RT-590:

It looks like the RT-590 has 9 inches of headroom, so still advantage Weber. Recteq would have to make a "short" RT-700 to be directly comparable.
