Noticed today I've got an elm that is going to need to be taken down.

Anyone smoke with elm? Or is this going to be used for firewood.

I wouldn't myself, its pretty soft. and they smell like smokey urine in the fireplace so I don't even like it for that

. You can try if you want though its up to you. My old man calls them "p*ss elms", lol. I think most will be worried about the soft wood thing. While the thread is going though could you or someone explain why cedar is alright for salmon etc. but its also very porous? that always confused me. I've also read "dont use cedar it may make you ill". I don't know.

I prolly won't smoke with it, it will go in the wood pile for my outdoor fire pit.

Just wanted to know what size logs to cut it into. You answered that for me.
