Does the Minion Method Add an Upleasant Flavor?

IMHO, although I prefer lump, I don't think any good briquette seriously hurts the flavor of your meat. I think the whole "wait till it's ashed over" thing came from when most people lit their grills with a ton of lighter fluid.

I have had no issues with using Minion method with either briquettes or lump. However, I do seem to get indigestion when using briquettes, but not using lump, so there may be another argument for lump, besides that it is all wood, no filler, and doesn't fill up your cooker with ash!

I have never been able to taste anything funny when using K. I have stayed away from using lump as I have never used it and don't want to sacrifice a BBQ night.

I assume lump cooks hotter I'd like to try using lump to see if I can taste any difference

If I have lump coal, I`ll throw that in first then I`ll throw the K charcoal on top when its "greyed" over. Don`t always have the luxury of getting my hands on lump coal.

Actually, I can taste the difference and so can several others I normally BBQ for. When using "K", I always let it grey over. If not, I can smell it in the food.

I use Kingsford all the time and always use the Minion Method. I have never noticed any odd taste and neither has anyone I have shared food with. I do need to try some lump, though.

Ditto...I have use(d) both and have buddies that use both. Can't tell the difference.

The most obvious was when I used the Minion method on ribs. Maybe I put the ribs on the WSM too soon. I think you`re supposed to wait an hour...
