Do you add unlit and lit charcoal with minion method and long cooking sessions?

I read the following paragraph describing the minion method on this web site:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>
Depending on weather conditions, it may be necessary to add fuel after 12 hours of cooking. It's best to pre-light a small amount of charcoal and add it to the cooker, since the remaining hot coals may be too weak to ignite the fresh fuel.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<
So, does that mean add a bunch of unlit charcoal as well as some lit or only a small about of lit charcoal?

Thanks,
Bobby

The theory is you want lit charcoal on top of unlit so in theory you can add unlit and the lit on top. What I do is at the 12 hour point is fire up a full Weber chimney let everything get at least a little grey and then add the whole thing. That works for me.

Yeah, what Konrad said. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I will go back and rewrite that paragraph to make it more clear. Whether you add a small or large amount of lit charcoal is up to you, depending on how much longer you need to cook.

Regards,
Chris

I use lump and when I add more during a smoke, I put the lump on top then mix the lit and unlit lump, works great.
