digital thermometer problems?

Hey guys, I bought one of those pyrex digital thermometers with the probe atttached to a long cable. I have read lots of reviews that say they have lots of problems. Does anyone have any input on these (good or bad)? I would think that since cooking temps are lower, it seemed unlikely to me that it would risk damaging it. Will it be ok?

I've owned a pyrex and had good luck with it. I have since switched brands, but that is only because the Pyrex was not easy to find.

Be careful not to get water into the cable junction at the short leg of the 'L' shaped probe. Wash around it, but don't get water in there.

If I remember correctly, the probes on the Pyrex may not electrically be compatible with thermometers of other brands (they might be mechanically compatible, but not electrically compatible)

Never had a problem when smoking with the Pyrex.
