Maybe someone here can give me a solid answer, I have started trying to collect older kettles and so far only have an EZ green ss performer, an EZ WSM and an ER daisy wheel kettle. I sent a question to Weber CS asking what year the change to the one touch system took place and the reply from "Dyishan" was "May I ask why this information is required?"
I think 96 was the last year for the daisy wheels but if someone could help confirm that I would really appreciate it. The handles on the ER were toast so I'm on the look out for a pre 2000 trashed lid for the handles now, I don't have the tools to make them although the plans posted on this forum are really slick.

Did they make both for a while?

Now it's all coming together. Yesterday a Weber employee tried arguing with me claiming that my 1986 kettle had to have daisy vents and not the one touch blades. I told her my kettle is clearly stamped H. Not even their employees knows. It's going to be difficult to get to the bottom of this, but at least you know an H kettle did have the one touch sweeper blades.

I just bought a red H model with the one touch system. I think this was probably a special or high end model and the the OTSys was worked down into the basic model over the next few years.

Yes, you can't get a good answer from WCS, in their last email they tried to tell me that the one touch system didn't show up on regular kettles until 1999 but that they were always on the performer. Surely there is someone with Weber that knows the facts, I just can't find out how to contact them.

I dont know when the one touch system was first introduced, but basic kettles with that are known as One Touch Silver. Early deluxe versions as you may know are Master Touch. My 1999 daisy wheel (3 wheeler as some call it) is/was the most basic version and was known as the Bar-B-Kettle.
I don't know if this helps you or just is more confusing. (BTW, last year I did order new vent wheels for the 1999 at about $3 each.)

ive found on occasion the lid is not always proper to the grill. so the stamp on the lid might not be the same as bowl. especially on these older grills.

Some time back there was an old Weber commercial posted on YouTube from 1983 introducing the new "One Touch" cleaning system. So by 1983, the One Touch was an option. I agree that it was considered a higher end feature at the time.

Thats the commercial. Thanks for posting it. Now If only I can determine if it was 1981 or 1982 that Weber changed from the metal bowl handles to the wooden ones. They were definatly in place by '83.

I picked up a CL free "C" 1981 kettle this summer, it has wooden handles and one touch bottom vents. No way to tell if the lid and the bowl are the original pair but appear to be so. I also have a B bowl, with the metal handles. [/I] edited for year accuracy.
