Cure salt needed for beef Jerky?

Hey guys, wondering if cure salt is a must for jerky? I am planning on using this recipe http://tvwbb.com/eve/forums/a/...231059126#4231059126 and it doesnt call for cure salt. I am guessing because his turned out well you dont need it, but wondering why I see lots of recipes calling for it?

I plan to marinade over night and smoke tomorrow.

If you're making the jerky just to snack on at home over a couple of days, the cure is not necessary.

If you're making it ahead for longer term consumption later, use the cure for an extra margin of safety.
