I went to a house close to my home this morning looking at a used car for sale for my daughter. This old Genesis was on the curb in their driveway going out to trash tomorrow. I couldn't let it go. Lid porcelain in excellent shape - no scratches that I can see. Cookbox good, control panel questionable, manifold looks good, wheels good but...frame really shot. It's strange, the frame struts look good but most of the joints have failed, I haven't seen that yet. All wood replaced by the owner years ago but no wood treatment so it's all rotted (the owner who made the second set of wood slats was adverse to chemical treatments). Not sure if I should store for parts or eventually renovate the whole thing. This is the second Redhead I have to fix up. I have one from 1998 and this one I think from 1995. This one has the wood bottom shelf parts, the other has the wire shelf.

The owners though were happy that it might find a good home instead of the landfill. They were the original owners and say their new grill cooks much worse than this one did.

I still need a used car for my daughter.

At worst case there it looks like some good parts. If you're good fabbing stuff I'd lay odds you could turn it into a verry nice grill. Though right now it looks a wee bit sad :D
 
I once brought home a 1000LX which had been sitting in shrubbery for at least fifteen years.
Wheeling it across her yard caused total frame collapse and it went into my wagon in pieces.
It had very little use and was a bonanza parts grill…..

Assuming the frame tabs are broken on the right side, but I don't know how they couldn't be by the looks of it. Knowing how to weld would be a huge addition to your grill fixing arsenal.
 
That sounds good Steve. While grilling tonight on my working 1000 I started looking more closely at how the Genesis frame is assembled. I have the two lower long struts which luckily the owners saved. They are secured mechanically by center bolts. This is where I believe the inserts would go with new bolts. I'm guessing with new star inserts I've seen on the forum. I'm thinking of using those and then packing the joint on the inside with a viscose epoxy. I'm not sure what to do about the bending tabs but I will figure something out. I will also study some of the early assembly diagrams provided by webber.

I would try and take the frame apart to see what's going on there. The frame uprights may even be bent out of shape where they connect to the upper frame.
 
John, that's an interesting detail. The owner states that the previous LP hose was chewed threw by a squirrel. The said they lost a full tank (they probably did not close the main valve between use). They came up with the solution of adding the coiled wire to prevent another squirrel accident.
 
I have those squirrel guards on both of our gennys, bought them from ed young’s as what I remember as a genuine Weber item . We have lots of squirrels running through our yard

I hear ya. Backyard sniping. Between them and chippies. I have a special trap for the chippies. Looks like a mouse or rat trap with teeth. They're specially made for the little varmints. Bigger than a mouse trap smaller than a rat trap. I bait it with whatever type of fruit scraps I have, and in a little while you hear a nice "snap". I toss them way out in the back yard by that fence behind my back garage. Something comes by and eats them. Since I don't poison them I figure I am not hurting whatever is feeding on them
 
Yea, I can't believe I didn't take it home immediately.

Now I would really like a 2000 frame with a right hand table extension and no burner but just a simple shelf to the right of the controls. Does anyone know if a 3000 frame can be converted to not have a side burner but just a shelf? Also, is a Silver C frame the same as a 2000 frame or will it only take a Silver cookbox?
