Crepe Myrtle Smoking Wood?

I have an old crepe myrtle in my back yard that's about time to come down. Anyone ever use this kind of wood to smoke? Does not yield a nut or fruit, just blossoms. Cannot find any info on it any where, just curious. Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks, B

Those are a couple of discussions on the topic. Some people think it's not a good idea and others think that it might be. My own research shows that it is indeed a hard wood, but whether or not it's suited to smoking is unknown. You should give it a shot and be the first to document the experience online!

I wouldn't do it. I don't experiment with something I eat.
