A guy at work just gave me 2 big boxes of Crab Apple wood chunks. Just wondering if anyone here has ever used this kind of wood. I usually use either Apple or Peach wood for my ribs and butts. He gave me enough to last well through the fall once it's dried out, just don't want it to negatively affect the taste of my Q! Thanks!

Is that what kind of wood is used to smoke Crabby Patties?

Lance,
I've used crab apple before. I visited my mom one time, helped out with yard work, and kept some of the tree trimmings.

It's been a while and my memory ain't what it used to be, but I don't remember having any problems with it.

You could always smoke something quick like a small batch of ABT's, lets say at the end of a longer cooking session to try out the wood, and if you don't like it you won't be out alot of food costs.

Lance, have used it for years. Matter of fact when the tree finally came down in an ice storm a few years ago,I cut up a bunch and stored the wood in buckets in my attic.

works well. I have a near endless supply of crab apple at my disposal and I was worried that it wasnt "apple". wrong, who knows what kind of "apple" the wood you get is. never heard anyone say fireside is better than granny smith.
