Converting SmokeFire to Charcoal

Better use? how about fixing them. Let them work as intended. Quite honestly you would likely be better off finding a way to install some gas burners in one than burning charcoal

Interesting idea. The metal on my SF is pretty thin - not sure how efficient it would be. But you got me thinking about this concept. I also have a 2013 Genesis. The lid and firebox on the Genesis are much thicker and heavier. I'm wondering if an old gasser would do better for your project. Certainly plenty of them in the used/giveaway marketplace.

A 26” is a bargain these days, if you need more space pick up the 26” grey model. That’s a sweet grill. Put a venom on it if you need some temp control.

If needed I could also fabricate some sheet metal to close off some of the vents but based on my experience with the Billows for my vision grill, closing off the top vent was unnecessary as the inlet air vent is adjustable.
My Son has a visions kamado. Insulated and super tight so not the same as a EX6.
Single circular vent in the center compared to three fin vents on the back.
