I've been on the hunt to find an old 26" kettle to restore and use in addition to my 22" performer.

I'm a big fan of the performers ash catcher.

Is it possible to convert an old 26" to the OTG style of ash catcher?

Welcome to TVWBB Troy!

The problem is, the old 26 inch grills have the 3 spaced out daisy wheel vents, (smaller versions of the top vent) and these are located somewhat up on the sides of the lower bowl.

Troy i am kinda looking for a older 26 also, what i want to do is make a smoker, my plans are to cut out the bottom of the 26 bowl and attach a 18.5 otg bowl to the bottom of the 26er.

I modified my 18.5 wsm to a 22, bought a ots grill and cut out the bottom of the bowl with a jigsaw and mounted the bowl on top of the wsm middle section, bolted it together works awesome. The only thing i wish i would have done was use a otg bowl so it would have 2 handles.

Like this one George? This has the one touch system. You can see the sweeper handle sticking out. Its the blue 26" in the middle.

Thanks!

I knew about the 3 daisy wheel vents, but I guess I didn't realize how high up on the bowl they are. How does one clean the ash out with the old style of vents?

That sounds crazy. Do you have pics? I'm hoping to find another older 22 with the 3 daisy wheel vents so i can convert it into a smoker (can't afford a WSM at the moment)

DO WANT! And man, I live about an hour away from you. If you ever need help polishing your grills, let me know!

Wow, seeing Jeff's grills makes me feel guilty for not keeping mine cleaner. I have two older 26" one-touch grills and my brother has the new 26" one touch gold. The ash catcher on the gold is exactly the same as the 22" otg, but it doesn't fit on the 26" the same way. Weber added additional brackets on the new 26" for the otg assembly to attach - these brackets aren't present in the old 26" one touch grills.

I've had one of the older 26" grills for a few years now and enjoy cooking on it. I was fortunate to find another a week or so ago (craigslist) for $20. Below is a picture of them both. The 26" in the foreground is the one I just scored - still have only done a preliminary cleanup on it.

Hey Allen...no need to feel guilty...they have never been used, they should be clean! I actually use four of my grills and they look like yours...proud and broke in!

If I had that 26 blue - pretty sure I'd keep it under wraps too. Not sure what I'll do with 2 26ers now.... Maybe start a BBQ catering business???
