Consumer Reports - Spirit rated better than Genesis _ Any Opinions

A recent CR article rates the Spirit S310 as better overall than the Genesis E310. It reads to me like the main difference is in the results when indirect cooking, which I plan on doing quite often.

I am looking for a new grill and have been cooking on a pair of BGE ceramic grills (large and medium)for the last 15 years.

I want stainless grates and 3 burners. I am considering the Spirit S310 or the Genesis EP310.

Can anyone recommend which one is the better cooker for both direct and indirect.

Obviously the Genesis is much better built then the Spirit and looks better. However, I'll be cooking on it and not entering into any beauty contests.

Thanks!

Oh, I'd say the Spirit is far better than a Genesis:p, but then again I'm biased. Actually most people would say spring for the Genesis. However, after buying an OTG my Spirit is designated to the odd back-up duty.
I think either one would last you a long time, buy whatever tickles your fancy.

I like the Genesis. They are both nice and well built but needed the extra surface area. The warranties are the same on both now which did not use to be the case. I would go for either the Genesis E310 or the 330. I would love the sear station

I've been saving up for a new gasser with my credit card reward points. Then, recently, with use of all my the charcoal grills, I thought I probably wouldn't use it. That was until last light.

We headed over to my parents for Christmas. Somehow my BIL, as a light hearted challenge, convinced my Dad to relinquish control of the grill (hard for a Colonel to do after all these years). Ugh, good going BIL! Now we had to put up, or shut up. My BIL and I grilled some filets on my Dad's Genesis. Great experience and, we hit the ball out of the park. Steaks were on point! Char and temp were spot on. As far as the grill, it is well built, and it's back on my list! I believe there's a tool for everything, and the Genesis is something for which I will reach frequently.

after years of reading cr I stopped subscribing. lost faith in their outcomes. so go with the one that appeals to you and you only. you can buy the best rated whatever but if it don't push yer buttons it will never be "right" no matter what. check them side by side and go with yer first reaction. they are both capable to cook whatever you throw at them and then some.

America's Test Kitchen has rated gas grills over the past several years and they give the Spirit their top endorsement. Mainly due to its price point vs the Genesis. I say get what you like and enjoy it. Both are great grills and will produce excellent results. I bought a Genesis not that long ago and have been really pleased with everything that has come off it - fish, chicken, steaks - all excellent. I may try a whole turkey on it sometime soon. I did one on the weber kettle a week ago and it was just the best I've ever enjoyed. Followed Jamie Purviance's big time gravy video.

Speaking to to CR reviews, I bought one their 'best buys' back in '05. The Charbroil Advantage. Decent grill, but I'm back in the market. Next time I'm going with the Genesis! It'll be my last gasser. Has the Weber badge, and more importantly, backed by them. I think you just have to evaluate which features work best for you and your budget. Either way, I think you'll be happy.

Features, price, your needs are all important for when you make this pruchase, I would state this I would not go any lower than a spirit S310 as then I think they become to small to do much. I have a older east /west burner arangement Genesis S310 over the newer front to back style I would think that the newer style would be better for indirect cooking but I have never had any problems doing that with mine. I have both gas and charcoal plus a smoker they all have there place, and uses and sometimes all are used together at once.

Important thing is not be pushed into something to be to much for you buy what you want need and can afford it is a Weber how bad can it be.
