Chuck Eyes?

Picked up what was labeled "Chuck Eye Steaks" in the "steaks for grilling" section of the Food Lion. Do these look like chuck eyes to you?

Rubbed with Penzy's "Mural of Flavor". Mushrooms marinating in white wine woosty & a little beer (grabbed the beer bottle instead of the woosty bottle when making the marinade). Romaine with olive oil & S&P.

On direct for a couple of minutes a side.

...and plated.

Shoe leather! Perfect medium rare but inedible. I'm thinking it was a cut up chuck labeled as a chuck eyes. Oh well, can't win them all. Salad and mushrooms were good...

I saw something similar at my market and was concerned for just that reason. For grilling, I think I'll stick with skirt, flank, (and when I'm feeling rich) ribeye.

Thanks, Bill. No, it's queso fresco.

Campbell had a birthday party to go to yesterday at 4:00...so I hit the local watering hole for a few and was supposed to pick up fried chicken from a new soul food joint on the way home for dinner. It closes on 5:00 on Saturday...WTH? Anyway, ended up at the Food Lion instead of the place I usually get all my beef (15 miles away). Saw chuck eyes and decided to try them. If my go to beef place has them, I'll give them another try but not from FL again.

Don, your 1st photo, they do not look like "eyes",... i haven't seen "long" eyes like this...
Chuck eyes grilled medium rare should be deliciously tender.
Sorry they were tough, sounds like chuck steaks to me.
Ask Bob C. ... he'll know more.

However, your plated dinner looks FABULOUS!

Not chuck eyes, that's for sure.
CE's will look like mini ribeyes, with lots of marbling.

A local store had something called chuck tender eye steaks recently, and they were not chuck eyes, more like chuck mock tender (not so tender) steaks.

On the other hand, yours do look great!
Slice thin for fajitas etc??

Oh, Boy......there's an old line in a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta " things are seldom what they seem, milk can masquerade as cream " , and so it goes with his cut of beef, and even with the cut of one's jib, no ?

first thing i thought was they do not have a lot of marbling on them. i just picked up a couple last week and they are nicely marbled. i have also not seen them so thick.

they look great though. hopefully the salad made up for them!

That's what I was going to say. I believe Chuck Eyes are the thin end of the ribeye/Delmonico muscle. Pretty meal, though.
