Christening my Mini WSM and first stab at a picnic

A long work week (6 out of 7 days) ended and I want to relax and do some smoking. I am taking the Mini WSM for its first spin and taking a shoot at a pork pinic roast for the first time.

Picked up a 4lb. picnic at Stater Bros.

Used a home made rub I had stored and let it rest a bit.

Got the mini up and running and inserted the picnic.

Humming along at 225 degrees.

Stay tuned...

2 hours into it... The mini is holding at 250 degrees. I popped the lid to check what was going on and the meat has colored a whole bunch, not sure if this is normal or not - first time doing this. Any opinions?

Checked in on my jalapeno plant I put in a few weeks back and it seems to be doing well...

Very nice, Ricardo! You're killin' me w/ you jalapeno and tomato plants.

We will see if they make it Brian. The jalapeño is pretty easy to grow and I have had good results in the past. I was told this particular plant is a 3" jalapeño, I hope so! I want to make some poppers.

As for the San Marzano tomato, I hope it makes it! I planted it in a ceramic planter which was sitting around empty.

Way to christen the mini Ricardo. We won't be able to set any peppers or tomato plant out here for at least another 5 weeks.

Hang in there Bob! I planted a late tomato plant in November and got a few to harvest.

We are blessed in L.A., but could really used some rain!
