Chicago: Looking for a Silver B manifold/valve assembly

DM me with the price if you have one available. Prefer Chicago area part to avoid exorbitant shipping prices.

I am rehabbing a B but the darn valve screws are frozen up and stripped.

Thanks

Right now, I’m a little stressed but, I “think” I have one in the garage, finding might be a snap or a complete disaster.

@TonyS T-Bone The Silver B's have two different valves. Some have a 270 degree sweep with low at the 3-oclock position and some have less sweep, and the Low is near 5-oclock position.

IIRC, square manifolds on 2002 and later have the greater sweep and round manifolds that I've found on 2000/2001 models have the lesser sweep.

Good catch Dan. Grill in question I think '00/01, manifold # on the parts schematic is 62182, with the 270 sweep. The grill is at my son's house but I am going to verify "in the field," then send a new post.

A pic of the control panel is all that you need. The one below on the left is the early style, the one on the right is the newer style.

Post back here. No need for a new post. I may have one, but I can't get to it for a while.

I have that issue with the Wolf. Can't get the valves apart. My "go to" is just a drop or 2 of ATF. It's got low enough viscosity to penetrate and enough detergent and heat resistance to do what's needed to free it up. If a little more penetrant is needed I'll supplement with just a bit of Marvel Mystery Oil. Valves all working. Not the best but I get by with it

Happy to. This is how I do it and it works every time. Get a good penetrant, I use Gibbs. Spray it on the valves stems and let it sit there for a few hours at least. Put the knobs back on the stems and start working them up and down and left to right until they loosen up and they will eventually. Then I put a brass wire wheel in my drill and polish all the stems until they are nice and shiny again. This helps with keeping the valves smoothly working. Finally, turn the manifold upside down to let all the excess penetrant leak back out of the manifold. Wipe it all down and you'll be good to go. The only variable is really the time it takes for this all to work it's magic. I've let the manifold sit for days like this while I work on the rest of the grill so don't be too impatient.

Very similar to my way. I last did the Wolf valves maybe 5 years ago and still fine. Some of them I've been able to get apart but there are 3 of them IIRC, that get this treatment every few years. I don't even attempt to take the manifold off either

I do the same thing. But, I start with dripping the penetrating oil down the valve stems. If that doesn't free up the valves, then I consider doing a full relube or grabbing a different manifold. I don't know if it was brought up yet, but aside from the short sweep vs full sweep valves, you need to ensure you are getting LP valves and not NG.

Reassuring advice, thanks guys! I’m all over trying this hack before hunting down a new manifold. Although tomorrow’s snowstorm/polar vortex doubleheader may slow me down. Wife won’t let me do this kind of work in the family room lol!

Q: Is Gibb’s similar to PB Blaster, WD40 etc.? Penetrant?
