Charcoal Grate, which way up?

Have an 18.5 WSM. Does anyone have a preference on which way up the grate the charcoal chamber sits on goes? Smooth so the chamber can move around on the grate, or upside down so the chamber is restricted by the outer grate ring. I guess it makes not much difference but wondered if anyone have a preference.

I like mine smooth side up like you said, so it can slide somewhat for minor adjustment .

Never even thought of putting it in upside down. so smooth side.
