Was in Walmart today, snooping around the charcoal/Grill/smoker department as usual. Notice the there was only 4 bags of sam's choice charcoal briquettes on the shelf. there was tons of kingsford, but only the 4 bags of Sam's Choice. Is Walmart trying to tell us something ??? John

I agree, I had been using Sam's Choice pretty much since running out of Rancher. Recently trying ACE, but I generally stay away from kingford. well we have to kep a eye on Walmart. John

Is that sams choice stuff any good? I purchased a small bag of it a few weeks back and fired it up to cook some burgers on the grill. That stuff was terrible it just wouldn't get hot. I had the lid off the whole time and it took about 30 minutes to cook these tiny little burgers.

Maybe I just got a bad batch. I surely would love to get something cheaper than the kingsford, but there aren't too many choices around here.

I've had pretty good luck with sams choice, maybe you got a bad batch. Will be using Sam's choice to cook a whole turkey breast for supper tonight. John

i have had nothing but good luck with sam's choice. regular cooks, low and slow, its all good. its made by royal oak. never a bad smell either. that being said watch when you buy it. make sure its a fresh looking bag. wal mart tends to not watch very carefully and allows that stuff to get wet. was at a hd near santa rosa and water was dripping all over the grilling stuff plus bags of charcoal. amazing.
