Does anyone keep their charcoal (lump or briquettes) in plastic bins or trash cans instead of storing them in the bag? I always found that the bags they come in would undoubtedly get wet or dampen even if I did cover them. I also found that when lighting my WSM, I had to sift through the larger pieces of lump to find smaller pieces to fill a chimney so it would light.
My solution? I bought two 5 gallon buckets from Home Depot (the orange ones) and separated my lump into two buckets - larger pieces in one and then medium to smaller pieces in the other. I found this to work great because I no longer have to sift through a bag and ultimately cake myself in charcoal. I also now have a way to keep the charcoal dry and out of the way. Anyone try something like this? I was thinking maybe a small aluminum trash can if I stockpile enough!
