CB door on WSM 22 mod to stay open?

I just got my CB door, one interesting thing about the Weber door on the 22 is the lips to allow it to hang open.

Has anyone done or seen a mod to make the CB door hang open? Seems like I will be having to take the door off every time you open it to do anything in the WSM and I would think that would stress the handle as you are using it to hold the entire door not just latch it. Figured I would have to wear a glove every time I open the door to hold the door itself.

I don't have the CB door, but lookin at the stock doors on my 18.5" & 22.5" WSM's seems all you need to do is add a length of Aluminum Flat stock maybe an inch wide bent to fit the curve on the inside of the door.
Let it hang by an inch on each side and fasten with rivets or small Flathead bolts.

I end up taking mine off and setting it down, which I agree isn't ideal.
Maybe a length of thin chain to connect the door to one of the brackets that hold the water pan?

If you don't mind ruining the original door, you could try to cut the lower section off and attaching it to the inside off the CB door.

Jeff,

Quick question... As one who seldom opens the door (and yes, mine is also a CB), why would you need to open the door other than to briefly check something ?

I just used my 22.5" yesterday, and the ability to use the door as a chute to add more charcoal makes me want to try this on my 18.5" for giggles.:D

That is a good thought, I have no problem chopping the original door. I will check it out to see if I can rig something up.

Before you go cutting your original door, you may want to keep it to use for higher temps using the door prop mod.
Although I'm not sure how or if that works given the curved cut-out on the 22.
