Hey Bruce I am trying to help a friend with an old school genesis frame repair. I have done it several times thanks to your help in the past. The repair is where u cut the old support tube out and install a new one w frame plugs and through bolts. Can u please send me the link top that video sir? Thank you!!!
ps....frame support tube where the through bolt connects on the side of the cook box

Thread 'HOW TO: Weber Frame Cross Member repair'

WHAT: This is a How To on replacing the frame cross member on the left side of the fire box on Genesis Silver/Gold and 1000-5000

WHY: This part of the frame is a problem area that attracts substantial rust due to being next to the fire box heat. The rust is centered around the bolt area that holds the fire box to the grill frame. I had to do this on a grill yesterday and figured I would take the time to film it and help someone else out as this problem commonly pops up in the forum.

WHAT YOU NEED:
o Genesis gas grill frame
o extra piece of square tubing stock. Either...

However, use the Star Insert Bolts, not the square ones like in the video.
 
Thanks Bruce. Yep I have used both. I used to use the star inserts for the lower frame repair and they really grab tight. I will send the vid to my friend.

No, I do not have to do this repair. But it is stuff like yhis that adds a lot of value and funn to the site.
