calibrating polder-type thermometers

Does anyone have any ideas on how to calibrate them--or are they considered disposable when found to be off too much?

Also, which method is preferred for checking temps - boiling water or ice water?

Hi Dale,

My understanding is that Polder-type thermometers cannot be calibrated by the user. If you've got one that's off a lot and it's consistent, you can just compensate for the difference in your head each time you look at it. Otherwise, buy another.

I would check for accuracy using boiling water, since that's closer to the normal operating temp of the thermometer.
