Buying meat?

Is there any benefit / cost savings to be had at a resteraunt supplier or a meat wholesaler that would make it worth the effort of finding & using one over a Costco or Sams. Looking in the phone book everything seems to be north of me by about 25 miles. Do most of you just use the wholesale clubs?

What's odd is I buy all my meat at two local meat markets vs. Costco. Under every circumstance I've been able to find equal (or better) quality for less $$ at these markets over Costco. Also, the one Market I go to will hand carve my steaks for me. We're in Costco at least once every other week, I check the meat prices while there and have yet to purchase a piece of meat there. With this said, I think my situation is very rare. Compared with our local grocery stores the Costco prices are much better.

EDIT: Sorry Chris, I totally misread your post. I don't imagine unless you were buying in very large bulk that you could find a meat distributor willing to sell to an individual. However, being in sales I've always got to be on the optimistic side and always figure "I've got no now, why not ask, what's it going to hurt." So I say what the hell. Also tell the guy you do a lot of smoking and you'd like to drop some off for him sometime. Never hurts to grease the skids.

I buy all of my BBQ meat from BJ's, nobody locally can come close to their prices...... and after all we're making BBQ, no need to buy high quality meat for BBQ in my opinion.

I'm with you Larry, there seems no need to get high qaulity meat to make BBQ. I was wonering however if you could save any cash by attempting to find a wholesaler that would sell to the public in small qaunities. My guess would be that you'd have to by at least a case of product from those guys. I don't think I would need a case of meat very often unless I could find someone to split the cost/savings with.
