Hello everyone, I am a fairly new poster but I was hoping for some help.

I know this is a localized question, but I am looking for a good butcher/meat market in Austin, preferrably central or north. I am wanting to smoke beef back ribs for the 1st time and I am having a hard time finding these at the local grocery stores and Costco.

I appreciate everyones help.

Central Market or Whole Foods are known to have good butchers, who will actually do stuff for you, Like, we get meat sliced for cheese steaks some times, no complaints when we ask for it.

If you want a smaller time type place, and more 'just a butcher, check out these two:

Johnny G's Meat Market

and

Stuffed Cajun Meat Market

I usually try to get meats from Costco, but they are hit or miss. They'll have beef ribs or pork butts every time except the time you need them.

Hello from Austin. :)

Thanks James and Phillip. I have never smoked beef back ribs before and didnt realize how difficult they were to find. I called Central Market, Whole Foods, HEB, Randalls, Sams, Costco, Johnny G's and the Meat House. None of them had beef back ribs. I did have a guy tell me that HEB will get some in on Saturday morning so I was going to call tomorrow.

Usually I go to HEB, Costco or Central Market for meat that I am smoking and I do like them but I wished Austin had a better selection of butchers.

Welcome M,
As you have found out, it's hard to find a dedicated butcher in the Austin area. If you come across one, please post it!
