Broken Silver B Lid Handle

I was taking the endcaps off a Silver B lid and the handle had a bad crack near the lid joint that failed when I removed it. Does anyone know if this could be glued? I don't think so but wanted to ask. I have a doner handle from a C but I'd rather not use it. Or, I have some oak flooring I might be able to make a new handle. The grill is probably going to be just used at our local block parties so function is more important than restoration. Anyway, has anybody glued one of these? Thanks!inbound5649370634978320072.jpg

I don't think so either unless I reinforce it with some sort of struts and epoxy. I took the handle off my Genesis 1000 to look at. It's a simple piece of wood that I think I could fabricate a similar wood replacement for the B. I have a band saw and router bit for my drill press but it's a lot of work and I have to get the grill up and running for a block party soon. Worse case is I'll take the handle off my C which is in pretty bad shape that I got for free and figure something out for the C later. I understand now why it's good to have a few extra grills laying around. However, I'm not quite sure why my wife doesn't quite understand this yet.

If looks are not an issue, then simply get a peice of wood and fashion one out that. No need to miter it or cut the grooves into it. Just plane down the ends so it will fit in the handle.

Thanks Bruce. I think I'll try that and put some deck varnish on it.

Don’t hold your breath…
My wife started understanding it just fine when I started giving her some money from the ones I restored and sold. Before that she would question what I was doing with all the grills. Keep in mind I never even have more than four or five to begin with and only two complete grills at the moment along with quite a few parts scattered all over the garage.

Good idea, I better give her some of the cash I made on the last grill. She was a bit perplexed at the fifth, especially the second redhead. But tonight I barbecued some chicken on the Silver A and she loved it. Cooking dinners also helps for the acceptance factor.

@Val Deale

I have an extra handle from a silver B. If you want to pay for shipping from CA I'll send it to you. I'm pretty sure it's hiding under a maroon platinum lid that @Steve Hoch is interested in so if I'm lucky, I'll get two things out of my garage if things go well.

let me know. Private message me with a zip code and I'll make a guess on shipping costs.

I ended up for the block party grill using a piece of poplar I bought at Home Depot for $4.00. I routed the corners with a drill press and 1/4" router bit. I liked the nature light color of the wood against the black so I just used two coats of Minwax Tung Oil. The stock flathead bolts were short so I just used the some extra ss 1/4" bolts that come in a burner kit.IMG_20250817_201905.jpgIMG_20250817_201650.jpg20250817_185846.jpg
