BRITU w/ sand instead of water

Does anyone think there will be any difference in the outcome of the Best Ribs In The Universe recipe if I use sand instead of water. Most of what I've read here would suggest that it shouldn't matter but the recipe is so specific, I just wanted to get another opinion.
