Britu Rib Recipe - When do I baste?

Hello, first time smoking some baby backs on my new WSM. They are cooking right now. I was going kinda by the Britu recipe but I am trying 2 rubs. I know that the recipe says not to uncover base or anything until you flip after 3 hours. My question is when do I baste? I was thinking about spraying Apple Juice about every 45 min after the first 3 hrs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basting BBQ meats during cooking, while widely practiced, is not always necessary. Most of what BBQers do, IMO, is mopping, where a flavored or seasoned liquid is more adding an additional layer of flavor than cooling the meat surface. The BRITU relies only on its rub and smoke.
 
I am no expert but Chris says no peeking on the ribs. Your heat will swing because you are opening the WSM. Let the WSM do the work for you. That is what makes them so great.
