Boys Bday BBQ

Instead of throwing three partys for our boy's bdays we just combine them, they all have bdays within 3 months of each other. We still have small immidiate family only partys for them individually. Tomarrow at noon were expecting ~50 people, mostly family but some friends also. Should be fun, well the cooking at least

My wife is doing a couple dozen eggs worth of deviled eggs, homemade coleslaw for the PP, and macaroni salad. I'm smoking around 24 lbs of butts (3 ~8 lbers) and doing a batch of beans.

I rubbed 1 butt with mustard and Texas BBQ Brisket Blend. For the other two I used a homemade rub that stems from Kruger's metamorphesis rub. I didnt use mustard but, I did pre-salt them so I could "double rub" with what I call my "ever evolving rub" I plan to keep the two seperate and see what the guests like more, just for fun.

The beans are going to be loosly based on Barbie's "Down South, 'Ole Home, Good 'Ole Boy, Southern Red Oak Smoked BBQ Beans" with the apple pie filling from Keri's Hog-Apple Baked Beans added.

Heres a teaser pic, more to come

Nah, my wife has surrendered the screened in porch to me, lucky man... Rain/snow is not a factor, nor the north or north west winds

I do have a cheap lil plywood wind block if needed.

7 am and I'm tending the fire as usual, something about drinking until 4 in the morning always has me chasing temps all morning

I should have added fuel before going to bed/after adding the beans, you'd think I'd learn someday. Pit temp was down to almost meat temp (160) @ 7am. Fuel was almost completely consumed. I used a tightly packed ring of lump, but 3 butts and a ~20 lb batch of cast iron and beans sucks alot of heat. Anyway, Fuel is added, temps are coming up, and the beans are good and hot (and taste great btw) Hopefully we can get these butts done and rested by noon @ a lil higher temp. Wish me luck! Whos got time to sleep off a hangover

I wish santa would bring me a guru.

Brandon,

Nice setup...and good to see you don't need to tackle the little guy and break his arm like Tony C. did to his little one...Yeah, yeah, he said the kid was jumpin' on the couch or something like that...likely story, no doubt the kid tried to get to the smoker before him and Tony probably tossed a body tackle on it...poor little guy...
