Boston butt sin

I feel I have sinned, I bought my second butt today during lunch. I was very excited as to it being almost 8lbs and a little bigger than my first.
I was very excited that is until I noticed I bought a BONELESS BUTT! I prefer bone in all meats I buy, do you think I'll notice a difference from a bone in? Should I return for a bone in or just cook what I got?

Anyone else do this before?

I prefer bone-in, butt, nuthin wrong as Dan said trying it out. It should cook a little quicker and if you untie it then rub than re-tie that gives you more surface area for the rub to penetrate.
Have fun and enjoy the BBQ.:wsm:

It's called experience. Lettuce know what you think now that you have something to compare to.

When dealt lemons, make lemonade, and ^^^that's^^^ what I'd do. I'd try cooking 250-275 with a dry pan and foil after the bark looked good. More bark and less time.

Just cook it, and enjoy. I really don't notice the difference, although I generally go for the bone-in.

TJ, my meat source (The Fresh Market) only sells boneless butts so that's all I've smoked for 2 years. Personally, I can tell no difference. I smoke to "butterness" and then accept the accolades:

This is incredible.
This is the best bbq I've ever eaten.
You can't get this in any restaurant.
Can I have the leftovers.
You da man.
Etc.

It's not sin to smoke boneless. Tie it up to keep it solid, rub, and smoke like normal. I've done 20 or so now and have no hesitation. It will be great for you, too.

If it makes good Q, then who cares about a bone? Not gonna eat it anyway....

Granted though, there is something satisfying at the primal level about pulling that bone out.

Do my rub and injection then tie it up, or rub it down tie it up and then inject, or just don't inject at all and rub it down and then tie it up.

All I have every done as been boneless up until the last cook. I do recommend tying it up so that it is more uniform in shape. Going forward I will probally do bone-ins simply because I don't have to fool with tying and I can better separate out the muscles if wanted.
