Bloom is Coming Off the Rose

Gonna walk a very fine line as I don't want to run afoul of anyone. But, I'm calling BS on all these companies. Whether Fellow, or any others. Tariffs are not even in effect and even if they do come to effect we still do not know what will be worked out and on what type of goods and so on. Just a way of padding their already too fat bottom lines preserving those bonuses for the bosses

There are tariffs that are in effect right now with more on the horizon, and businesses are very unsure about what the future holds. Raising prices tends to slow sales, which gives companies more time to move existing inventory while waiting to see what the future looks like. Competition is what brings prices down, so maybe something similar at a lower price can be found, but if not, maybe don't buy anything. That's really all we can do to protest high prices.

Yeah, been doing without right now since sending back the OXO. That thing was great because it nestled on the counter in such a way I could do all the operations on it without needing to constantly move it. Dragging a large heavy coffee maker out from under, filling, and getting it back outta the way is a PIA.
But this whole pricing thing is simply taking advantage of customers (or potential ones). Hell look at coffee pricing. Oh they had a big "crop scare" now coffee futures are in the dumpster. You think the pricing has come down to match? Heck no. You go to Costco and they're still jacked up close to 50%
I did hear back from Consumer Product Safety Commission and they've forwarded my safety complaint on to OXO

Our suppliers of lumber for the new houses I build say the US mills just raise their costs to match the higher imported costs of Canadian lumber because they can. 🤷

Capitalism at its finest. Again, the only thing we can do to protest is to stop buying.

I don't know if you remember, but back in the 90's Canadian lumber was the thing because it could span longer.
We burnt thru all our old growth lumber and our new HF # 1 or 2 would only span like 15" 4" for 2x10 joists.
The old growth canadian lumber could add a few inches to that span and builders liked it cause it was cheaper compared to our HF ( Hem Fir )

Well I've been holding off on a decision waiting for Prime Days. What a waste of my time. Every time Amazon runs Prime Days and I'm possibly needing/wanting a particular item and it's always a waste of my time waiting. No deals to be had on either machine I'm considering :( I've never had Prime Days be of any use to me

Tariffs are in effect, and the expectation is that the rates will further increase. But even if there were 0 tariffs, the value of the dollar is down 10% this year, so even if prices on components imported into the US have not been changed by the supplier they are still 10% more expensive to import. And given the substantial portion of US Treasuries held by foreign governments the dollar is likely at further risk.

Well, I ordered the Fellow Aiden last night as I think it may just fit slightly better and I really only need a 10 cup machine with a 12 cup a huge over kill for me. Fellow has a 30 day no question asked return policy so if I end up not liking it I'll get the Breville Luxe. Since it's the evolutionary "update" to the Precision Brew I am currently using. I'll see how things go with it. I know I likely will not even scratch the surface of it's programming. We shall see.
As for the validity or not of what you are saying about the $$$ and such. I've not dived into it far enough yet to make an argument in agreement or disagreement. And I don't want the thread to devolve off subject. But, I do appreciate the input and viewpoint

Will be anxious to hear your thoughts. Fellow makes some good stuff

Good or bad I don't pull punches. I did get a call yesterday from OXO's legal dept as IMO the issues I had with all 3 of those brewers was too serious to simply "let go". When a brewer will not shut down it's heating element and sit there continually "cooking" that is not s simple "inconvenience" as it would be in a "false brew" situation. That is potentially dangerous. So I did file a report with CPSC. We'll see what comes of all this as well

Well I did order and received the Fellow Aiden today. Some things I noticed right off the bat compared to my Breville Precision Brew. First off is how "tiny" it is. Everything about the Breville feels like it's built like a "tank" and all the pieces of the Fellow just feel small. The whole machine is just tiny and light in comparison. I honestly feel a little "cheated" as the cost per pound is REALLY high on this thing :D
Next is so quiet. The Breville's pump is quite loud by comparison. Aiden is very muted sounding. I ran a test tank of water to flush it out. and another nice thing is the brew basket lid is sealed. So you don't have the clouds of steam coming out the top causing the cabinet to delaminate.
It feels like a "nice" piece but the Breville just "feels" like a high end piece of equipment. The Fellow ehh.....................not so much.
Bottom line how it brews a pot of coffee is what is going to count. More on that tomorrow morning. One more observation (kind of a little gripe) Water tank is marked in Liter/ML not in ounces. Grrr now I have to do mental gymnastics

Note: the bloom wasn't coming off the Breville, it was slipped into place when the OXO failed again. My biggest thing for the OXO was I could brew without having to move it out and back. But, when it failed and I sent it back Breville took it's place. Bottom line the whole motivation was to find a machine that brewed great coffee BUT I did not have to constantly move in and out. Otherwise I would not have replaced the Breville. Now if this Aiden fails to work out, I'll get the latest Breville instead which has removable water tank and can pretty much fit the needs I have

Well, I used the so called "Guided Brew" this AM. Apparently it sets parameters based on type of coffee you're making (light roast, medium or dark). Then adjusts things like bloom time/temp/volume, pulse time/temp, and I guess a couple other things. I'm using coffee labeled as Med/Dark so I selected "dark" profile. Very good. Best it can do? IDK. Maybe tomorrow I'll try Medium profile and see what if any difference there is.
Still trying to wrap my head around how "tiny" everything is :D

So day two with the Fellow. Following their guided "recipes" just to see where their thoughts are. I have to say this thing really extracts every last bit out of the grind. Almost feeling it may be a little over extracted. They tell you in the instructions to not be afraid to grind coarser than previous machines. Today I did one "step" coarser on the Forte BG. Tomorrow gonna try one step more
