Big Steel Keg

Just saw one of these at the local Ace:
http://www.bigsteelkeg.com/

Build quality looks good, looks like a good BGE alternative (they must hate the name).

Owner said they made some great brisket and that the outside stays cool to the touch. Anyone have any experience?

haven't seen much posted about using one here but you can find some info on the web. I know there's a blogger that is a BGE user and a BSK user so he's directly compared them. try googling:

"bubba keg vs big green egg"

I heard that some of the Home Depots had these marked down to $300 but I haven't been able to find a local one carrying them. If I find one at that price I think my WSM will have some company.

The discounted one was the Bubba Keg Grill (last years model), the Big Steel Keg is the new version of the grill. Low and slow and general temp control has been improved. I have two green eggs, but I am glad to see some serious competition. Since I am a forum lover, I have done some lurking in their forum:

Owners seem to very happy with the product.

WOW! Dual bottle openers and trailer hitch mount are included!

Now I see why they call it the "Bubba" keg.

I saw one yesterday at our local Menard's.
I was very impressed with the Big Steel Keger!!

I recently used one and posted about it.

I'm really stoked about it. BSK is a bit cheaper than Bubba was, comes with a cover, not the trailer hitch adapter ... I didn't need hitch adapter anyway but it's still going to be an accessory.

I plan to sell the performer and my gasser this year and buy a BSK. I'll keep the WSM for bigger capacity cooks but BSK is gonna be my main grill and smoker.

It's awesome. Comes with CI grate, stand, ash tool, side shelves (all 'EGGstra $$' with BGE), the top damper is bolted down unlike the egg.

I've already e-mailed BBQ Guru to see if they have an adaptor for the BSK.

I use the Guru on long cooks and drilled a dedicated port on my WSM. I'm not sure I'd want to punch a hole in this guy!

Personally I think the 10CFM fan is nuts. The 4CFM is good enough for smoking in the WSM and this thing is 10 times better at holding heat. He's using a 10CFM fan so he can use the Guru for grilling too.

I've heard it will reach like 800ºF no problem and fast all on it's own.
