Best Dual Probe Thermometer

I am sure it has been discussed many times before, but looking for some up to date answers.

What is the best all around dual probe thermometer to use with the WSM? By all around, I mean combo of ease of use, accuracy, price, etc.

I've seen mentioned thermometers by Polder, Nu Temp, and Maverick.

I'm a new WSM owner and still trying to collect all the "gadgets" I need to best use the smoker. Would love any input.

Thanks.

The "best" Dual Probe Thermometer is the one ultimately decide to buy(after doing some homework). Each of the brands you mentioned have their pluses and minuses in "ease of use, accuracy, price, etc." You have to decide what is important to you and then decide.

Temperature probe search

Polder - inexpensive, reasonably accurate, less durable
Maverick - mid-priced, accurate, versatile meat/pit probe (depending on model), some would like better range.
Nu Temp - higher priced, accurate, must buy two senders for monitoring meat and pit temperature, small company good support.

After doing my research, I purchased two Nu-temp probes and the receiver. I am satisfied with my purchase.

I also have some polder clones(non wireless) that I use occasionally.
Wireless Mavericks can be found in many home stores (Lechters, Bed, Bath and Beyond) or mail order Amazon.com

Unless price is your highest priority, I would stay away from Polder and Polder clones. If distance is not a priority, I think the Mavericks are a good value. For the extra money, I don't think you can go wrong with the Nu-temps.

If a poll was taken on what people have, my guess is that Maverick would be first, Polder/clones second and Nu-Temp third. Cost and availability is what would make their numbers higher, not necessarily because they are better.

Cost wise with two probes:

NuTemp: about $95
Maverick (ET-73s): about $45

Two Mavericks can be pruchased for a total of 4 probes for the cost of configuring a two probe NuTemp set up.
