I'm new to smoking. About a month ago I purchased a 18.5 WSM but haven't used it yet. It's been way to hot for me to do much of anything outside. I've read quite a bit and there's a lot of good info on this site.
It seems temp control is very important and one of the automatic control systems would be a good thing, especially for someone with little experience and for long smokes.
I've been thinking about one of the new Stoker Wifi systems. I've done some reading about the Stoker at Rock's website and talked to him about a system. I haven't done a lot of comparison shopping cause the Stoker seems pretty good. I want a pit probe and a couple of meat probes. Right now I have a Weber remote gauge that I use for grilling.
I would like some information and should have asked Rock, but I thought you guys would know. I would like to use the system without messing with my computer router and network stuff. I know very little about this stuff and would like to go as simple as possible at first. Can I use the Stoker as a stand alone without networks, ethernets, and such? I just want to plug the thing in, get readings from the pit and meat probes, and have the blower turn on when temp is below target and cut off when temp is above target. I might want to include some of the other nice features once I get the basics down.
Thanks,
Gary
