Beef Short Ribs

I've done a search on the boards here for Beef Short Ribs without much success. My ribs were purchased at the local Whole Foods Market for about $4.99 per lb. Here's what they look like:

Is smoking these something I want to try? I found only one post here that spoke of success so I'm a bit worried. Please give me your thoughts!

hmmm, never smoked shorties. I've tried grilling them with limited success. They are best cooked in a slow braise since they are a fairly tough cut which needs time to break down. I imagine you could work something out since low and slow is not unlike braising. You would have to treat each one like a mini brisket. good luck and lets us all know how they come out.

"Weber's Big Book of Grilling" has a recipe for Korean short ribs, but they're butterflied and grilled instead of smoked. I tried it last summer and they turned out pretty good:

actually for korean bbq, the rack is kept whole and sliced thin across the bone, resulting in a long slab that has a series of small rib cross sections along the bottom edge. Luckily my local supermarket has no problems cutting these for me. It sure beats my korean market by 5 bucks a lb!

I did a slab of these once and it turned out pretty good.
Don't remember the exact poundage but it was an unsliced block of about 10x12" and maybe 1.5-2" thick.

Came out very rich and moist, very beefy flavor. There is some real meat on these, but quite a bit of fat too.
I smoked it like I would a pork butt and that seemed to work fine. I'd suggest that as the place to start as far as method.
