Those gloves are great for working in the yard. I always have a couple pairs on hand. They're not coated with kevlar. That coating is latex (or silicone or some type of water proof substance) and is very helpful in getting a good grip on stuff. The fabric of the glove is kevlar and while it's not bullet proof, it will give you a bit of safety if something hits your hand. For BBQ, maybe a gag, but don't throw them in the gag gift pile - they're good gloves.
