Glenn,

I have a guru with a pit minder 10cfm fan but rarely use it anymore. I bought it out of fear more than anything. I worried that I couldn't maintain a temp overnight, so I bought it. Now I know that if I can maintain a temp all day, which all of us can, then overnight is no different. I used it recently, again out of fear, with 5 butts overnight for a big event, but I have no doubt that I could have held the temp all night without it. As for short cooks, anything under 6 or 7 hours, I wouldn't even think of it. I say save the money and put it in to more necessary things, like meat, wood, accessories, a thermopen, etc. Good luck.

thanx guys.. was looking at the digiq dx, but think my cash can be spent better..like another WSM..btw how are things in winston?? been too the new ZIGGYS yet??? loved the old one..

Glenn,

I've only lived here two years so I'm not familiar with Ziggy's, but I'll look it up and let you know. The BBQ scene is unimpressive, so that keeps my WSM smoking, no pun intended!

Glenn;

Most seasoned pitmasters like you can dial the WSM in a get good results. Occasionally, however, strange things can happen that ruin an overnight cook.

Just like we buy insurance in case of a hurricane, we hope we never have to use it. When I have my Guru DigiQ DX on the job, its like having insurance that not much can go wrong. I add an ET-732 to the mix so I can have remote monitoring as I sleep soundly all night.

The results are quite consistent since the Guru keeps the temps under close control. By the time you or I could react and make a damper adjustment, the Guru has corrected the problem and the temp is right on target.

I use their cheapest model,mother battery operated partyq on my 22. I love it. My temps were pretty stable on my WSM, but I gre tired of getting randomly woken up by temps rising outside of my comfort zone. This easily eliminates that.
