BBQ Galore not stocking wood

I'm frustrated with my local BBQ Galore store around here, namely in the Rancho Cucumomga, Ca location. I have stopped by there a few times in the last 3-4 months, looking for some Apple and Pecan wood chunks to buy. They are always out of stock. They only have Hickory and Mesquite wood chunks on their shelves, every time I visit it them. I keep asking the workers when they will get some wood in stock, the ask me to come back on Thursday. I come back, no wood. Same ol lame excuse. No Apple or Pecan wood. The last time I was there, I finally told them that I won't be coming back, as I have found out that my local Home Depot, now carries Apple wood chunks, as well as some Cherry wood! Whoo Hoo.

I checked the Local Bass Pro Shop, they also have a very nice selection of wood chips, and chunks too. Sooooo....... I guess BBQ Galore lost a good customer here.

Thanks for letting me vent here, I wrote an email to BBQ Galore's main office, no response from them yet, it's been a week now, since I sent the email.

I'm going to Home Depot tomorrow, and picking up some Apple wood for this weekend's smoke!!!!

at least you still have a Barbecues Galore. The 2 we had in the Sacramento area have both closed down a couple of years ago.

Well this kind experience might be part of the reason they are shutting down.
I'm lucky with my local bbq supply. If I want something they get it for me and put it aside. Usually if I get him to bring something in other customers buy it up so it becomes a regularly stocked item.

I can appreciate your frustration. I had the same experience with them on lump a while back. I'm not overly impressed with this store. Maybe it's just I go to and the community it is located in, but it seems to cater to upscale weekend grillers, not real bbq'ers, IMO.

And yes, I noticed at HD recently that they have apple, pecan, hickory and mesquite. Too bad their K is so ridiculously overpriced compared to summer rates. Guess that is just the business of charcoal.

Cheers

My exact feelings about bbq galore. I used to live on the northside of Atlanta and that one had nothing that wasn't extremely expensive or that I wanted... and now it's shut down.

I haven't had the same problem. My BBQ Galore store has cherry, apple, pecan, oak, hickory and mesquite. I'm not sure what they stock in chips, but they always have ample blocks. I think might be that store in particular and not BBQ G. (IMHO)

They moved from the JD store. They have a new location and it is a much bigger store. They are still in North Atlanta.

I would agree that they are a bit pricey.

They offer two different kinds of lump, BGE lump, which is overpriced Royal Oak and their "new" brand which is about $11-12 FOR 20LB. Not a great price but not bad either. The new charcoal IMHO is not much better than the old. Sparks and produces a lot of ash. I did notice that once it was in the WSM it quit popping.

Well, I finally got a response from the local store. Here is the email that I recieved today.
Next time I'm in the area, I'll hit em up for the discount on the wood

Mikey,

First I would like to thank you for emailing BBQ Galore with your concerns on the lack of wood. I would also like to apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused you. We do value you as a customer and would like to keep you as a loyal customer. Our company was going thru some changes with our wood vendor and unfortunately when we would get a re supply of wood it was not a very large amount. The good news is now everything has is settle and we have a dedicated trailer coming in tomorrow specifically for wood. I would like to offer you a 25% discount for your next wood purchase here at BBQ Galore. When you come in please ask for myself or Pete and we would be happy to assist you. We should receive our trailer by 4 pm tomorrow afternoon and we look forward to seeing you once again. If you have any or questions or concerns please feel free to call me or email me personally. Thank you for your time and patience and I apologize for the inconvenience once again. We value your opinion and your business.

Thank You,

xxxxStore Director

I think it's cool they offered you the discount, but it's still not a very impressive store to me. Again, I'm going just off the one near me in what is referred to as 4S ranch, but it is clearly geared towards upper middle class folks who don't mind spending $10k on a gas grill island. Or overpaying for a WSM. They have cooking classes but they're too highfalutin for me. I don't want to grill a 3oz filet on a gas grill while drinking a "nice 1998 Pinot".

Sorry, I'm ranting...it just seems more about posturing than real bbq to me.

Cheers
