I would like to attend a barbecue contenst somewhere within a reasonable drive of Central Florida. I want to attend as a spectator, walking around seeing some of the various setups, cooking equipment and simply enjoying being outside with the pit aroma.

I have seen a few things from the Florida Barbecue association, but can't determine if this would be what i am looking for. Also don't know which event would be the better to attend as a specator. any input is appreciated.

If you hurry, there is a contest going on in Plant City right now.

It's KCBS

On November 30-December 1, there is A FBA contest in Starke, at the fairgrounds. No more contests until January, then there's the KCBS contest in Felda on New Years Day.

/based on what I am looking for in a Q contest, is there one you would recommend over the others? I don't need to go this weekend or next, but would rather get your help in picking a good one where there will be a good size crowd and entrants.

Almost any of them

Winter Haven is great. I've never been to Sebring or Okeechobee, but they are good, if the weather co-operates. You could always try the one in Panama City, Panama

. It's a first year contest, and I still haven't figured out how the logistics will work.

Oh...Try to visit Friday afternoon/evening. Things are pretty relaxed, and more willing to talk and share information than if you visit on Saturday.
Saturday mornings, the teams are getting their turn-in boxes ready and don't need distractions. After turn-in, they are pretty much busy cleaning up and packing for the trip home. They'd probably let you wash dishes, though.
