Awful lot of fuel????

I used My WSM for the first time in colder temps (low 30's with blustery winds. Cooking at 275. Had no trouble getting or holding the temp, but a full basket of Kingsford O burned out in little less than 4 hrs. Others say 8-10 hours per basket. Is this normal for the temps? If so, you guys in really cold weather (0-30) must have a hard time keeping it fueled. Used foiled pan with flower pot base (foiled), no water. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Find another hobby. Just kidding. How did you start your fire, lit vs unlit? I'd say that 4 hours is way too short a time to burn out a full charcoal ring unless you began with mostly lit coals, although I don't use Kingsford

The wind will do that. You need to find shelter if you are smoking in windy conditions. It's only sheet metal and so the unit has no ability to retain heat.

I used Minion method with basket full and started with 1/2 chimney lit. I guess it was just the cold, wind (esp wind) and no protection for the smoker. Reckon it took that much burn to keep the temps up. Vents were open top, 1 bottom open on back, 1 closed, and the one facing the wind about 1/2. Thinking about it, with no water, that was a lot of air for only 275 degrees.
Thanks for your help.

Up here where it's cold and windy, it's the wind that'll get the smoker. I have no issues with cold weather. Hang in there. You'll be complaining of the heat and humidity in no time. Me too.
